Beat The Summer Heat in Aviary | Misting of Aviary Birds

How To Beat The Heat This Summer

In the summer, the temperature can reach 42°C where we live. Temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius are ideal for birds. Despite this, parrots can withstand temperatures as low as 29 degrees.

Therefore, how can we bring the temperature and humidity down to the level of the room temperature?

Even in the summer, we at Jayden Joshua Aviculture give them joy and a reason to dance in the rain. We love bringing birds up in a correct manner.

We have put in a high-pressure misting system that significantly lowers the temperature inside the aviary.

How much will the temperature be reduced by a misting system?

How much a misting system can reduce the temperature depends on various factors. The solution to this question will rely upon various variables. Let’s take into consideration the various variables.

  • Humidity
  • Wind Direction
  • Temperature
  • Placement

Now, if we takes care of all the above checks in place then we have a greater control of bringing down the heat to the ideal room temperature.

Humidity

The higher the humidity, the wetter which feels outside and it is uncomfortable & unbearable. Which also means, higher the humidity, lesser the temperature drop. Temperatures can be lowered by the air’s capacity to absorb a lot of water. If the humidity is high, it means the less water can be absorbed, and the less the temperature will drop. So, we need to reduce the humidity therefore we can reduce the temperature to the maximum.

Wind Direction

Despite the fact that wind will have no direct effect on the cooling system, it will affect where the cooling goes and how quick the air can absorb the water. So, it is important for us to install the misting line towards the wind direction to get the most out of our misting system.

Temperature

Higher the temperature, higher the temperature drop

Higher temperatures give opportunity for maximum temperature reduction. When the outside temperature is 48 degrees, a mist system can achieve a much greater temperature drop than when it is only 24 degrees.

Placement

It is advised to place the misting line around an area’s perimeter. In most cases, it will prevent higher humidity levels and keep the aviary from excessive moisture. Which means it becomes easier and quicker for the air to absorb the water from the mist and thereby reduces the temperature to a greater extent.

Summary

Let’s do a reality check. Our humidity is more than 55% and the temperature in summer goes between 32° to 38° C, which is way too high, hence we can reduce the temperature only around 5° to 10° at the maximum.

So, by using a misting system we can bring down our temperature inside the aviary around 25° to 30° C. Which is really a fantastic way to give our birds a nice little summer dance in the rain.
