All About Golden Conure
The Golden Conure, also known as the Golden Parakeet or Queen of Bavaria Conure, is a medium-sized, bright yellow Neotropical parrot native to the Amazon Basin of interior northern Brazil. It is the only species placed in the genus Guaruba .
Appearance of Golden Conure
- Mostly bright yellow body feathers with dark green remiges (flight feathers) at the tips of their wings.
- Bald ring around their eyes
- Horn-colored beaks
- Pink legs and feet
- Juveniles can be identified by green speckles in the yellow plumage of the body. , unlike adults which are a uniform yellow.
Behaviour of Golden Conure
- Active climbers, chewers, and players
- Generally not known as social birds, but pairs and small groups may be seen feeding in the treetops together.
- They can be quite vocal, making high-pitched “greh” or “kray” calls.
- Breeding is apparently communal, with several females contributing two or three eggs to each nest and several adults caring for the young. Up to nine young have been recorded in a nest in the wild, and up to 14 in captivity.
Habitat of Golden Conure
- Dry, upland rainforests in the Amazon Basin.
- Recently, they have been seen more in lowland areas and near Brazil-nut plantations, likely due to habitat loss in their preferred areas.
Diet of Golden Conure
- Primarily nuts, fruits, flowers, and buds in the wild.
- In captivity, they require a specialized diet to meet their nutritional needs, often including a combination of pellets, nuts, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Lifespan of Golden Conure
Can live for up to 50-60 years in captivity with proper care.
