Pineapple Conure
Genus: Green-cheeked parakeet(Pyrrhura molinae)
Genetics:
The Pineapple mutation is a sex-linked recessive trait. This means that for a Pineapple Conure to be visually expressed, it needs to inherit the mutation gene from both parents. If a Pineapple Conure is bred with a wild-type or another color mutation, their offspring will carry the mutation gene but may not display the Pineapple coloration unless paired with another Pineapple or a carrier.
When two Pineapple Conures are bred together, all offspring will inherit one copy of the Pineapple mutation gene, resulting in visually Pineapple-colored chicks. When a Pineapple Conure is bred with a wild-type or a carrier, approximately half of the offspring will inherit the Pineapple mutation gene, and if bred back to a Pineapple or carrier, a quarter of the offspring will exhibit the Pineapple coloration.
The Pineapple Conure, also known as the Pineapple Green-cheeked Conure (Pyrrhura molinae) is a captivating color mutation of the popular Green-cheeked Conure. They are not a separate species, but rather a variation resulting from a genetic mutation that affects their feather coloration. Here’s a closer look at these charming little parrots
