All About Spix Macaw: Characteristics, Care, and Habitat
Appearance
- Smallest macaw species, averaging around 22 inches (56 cm) in length.
- Striking plumage with a beautiful blue gradient:
- Dull blue with a faint greenish tinge on the breast and abdomen.
- Upper body, wings, and tail are a deeper, more vibrant blue.
- Dark gray, featherless skin around the eyes and lores (area between beak and eye).
- Pale yellow irises.
- Black, curved beak.
- Sexes are nearly identical, with males being slightly larger than females.
Behaviour of Spix Macaw
